Dr. Jason Wright BVSc. (Hons.)

There was an inevitability about Jason becoming a vet. He grew up in Sea Lake surrounded by animals and knew he wanted to spend his days outside with them. After graduating with honours from University of Melbourne in 1998, Jason was offered work at the Barham clinic in 1999.

This is the perfect area for Jason, as his special interests lay in bovine medicine & surgery and intensive production systems e.g. feedlots, piggeries etc.(www.feedlotvets.com.au). Jason's added qualifications are as a Dairy Australia Repro Right Advanced In Calf Advisor, Countdown Downunder Mastitis Advisor, Accreditation Program for Australian Veterinarians (APAV), Australian Government Accredited Veterinarian Program - for the preparation of cattle for live export and is an Australian Cattle Vet Pregnancy Tester.

Outside of the clinic, Jason is married to local girl, Sonia Wright. He and Sonia actively involved in the local community and are raising their family in Cohuna. They both enjoy travel, especially overseas, where you can’t answer a farm call-out! Jason's other passion is the garden where he and the family spend a lot of spare time together in the veggie patch.

As for pets, the Wright family enjoy having several cats, (all re-homed from the clinic), chooks, guinea pigs and a rabbit.

Dr. Lachlan Ferhing BVSc.

Lachie was born in Cohuna to a dairy farming family and attended both primary and secondary school in Cohuna. He can even remembers the days of footy matches between Cohuna Vs Union or Koondrook or Barham.

He headed off to Melbourne University to complete Veterinary studies and play some footy in Melbourne. Upon graduation he worked in Maffra in a large dairy based Veterinary practice for 2 years before heading to Samoa, a small pacific island nation to do some vet work for the Australian government as part of the Youth Ambassador program. It wasn’t a bad gig to work on a tropical island for 12 months.

From here he head to the UK and worked in both large and small animal practices all over the UK. This kept him occupied for nearly 6 years before heading back to Australia. Any tales from these times have had to be restricted.

Since arriving back home in 2008 myself and my brothers have brought into the family dairy farm and I applied my trade locally doing dairy based vet work. Amanda, my partner , and I recently had a little boy named Lawson which has been a big change to routine and life.

Dr. Jessica Williams BVSc. (Hons.)

They say home is where the heart is and Jess' heart is here.

Growing up in a horse racing family in Gunbower, it was inevitable that Jess would want to be surrounded by farmland.

Jess studied veterinary science at Melbourne University and passed with honours in 2008 and has been working in this area since graduating. She has also completed her APAV, is a Johnes Disease MAP approved Veterinarian and is a registered VRC stable hand.  We think she’s been a little too busy to have worked overseas!

Enjoying all facets of veterinary work, Jess' particular passion is for the surgical side of things, recently embarking on a twelve-month surgery course at the Centre of Veterinary Education.

Outside of work, Jess’s interests lay with animals. She is a keen horse woman and her husband and her share their time out of work with her horse 'sport' and 160 dairy cows!

Dr. Rachel Farquharson BVSc.

Although Rachel has moved around a lot growing up, we are confident she is going to stay a while, as she has settled beautifully into the Kerang lifestyle since starting with us in March 2013.

Within the first month of work she was signed up to the Kerang Netball Club and having won the Best and Fairest award for her grade in 2014, we don't think they will let her leave now!

Rachel was born in Gove, grew up in Alice Springs and Groote Eylandt and attended Murdoch University in Perth. She has managed to fit regular family visits to Ireland, a six month exchange in Italy and various trips to the USA and Canada. Through all this though has retained a strong interest in animals, so the decision to become a vet has not been a difficult one to make.

Rachel has had some interesting pets over the years but has settled in Kerang with her two dogs, Bailee and Ian.

Dr. Amanda Grant BVSc.

Amanda grew up in Stanthorpe in southern Queensland.  She completed her veterinary studies at Brisbane University, graduating in 2010.  Following her graduation Amanda has worked in the Cohuna region but has only recently joined the Border Vet team.  Amanda enjoys all work that comes with being a mixed vet practitioner in the country but does have a special interest in working with cows. Specifically, she is very passionate about black and white cows and enjoys all facets of dairy production medicine and surgery and nutrition.

Amanda and her partner Lachie welcomed the arrival of their first child in June.  When not working and looking after Lawson, Amanda loves to run!  Whilst humble and embarrassed to admit it Amanda has the fitness of an elite athlete and would comfortably put to shame the fitness of her male vet counterparts (partner Lachie included!)

Kylie Lyons | Management Assistant

Kylie joined Border Vet Clinic in January 2012 after 12 years in the local Pharmacy and  This local experience means that she is a familiar face for a lot of our customers.

Kylie is based at our Leitchville Clinic, but also shows up at Cohuna, Kerang and Barham when needed. As Assistant Manager, she is our ‘go to girl’ and sorts out the many and varied tasks that come her way on a day to day basis ,anything from, can I have holidays? To, where is that farm?

Kylie grew up on a dairy farm at Leitchville and is now living in Cohuna with her husband.  When not at work she enjoys being with family and friends, keeping fit and even attends the odd clay target shoot.
